SuperTuxKart 0.9 Release Candidate
We have just released a first release candidate of SuperTuxKart 0.9:
SuperTuxKart 0.8.1 Released
We are proud to announce the release of SuperTuxKart version 0.8.1.
This release includes the following features:
- New track 'STK Enterprise'
- Updated tracks 'Old Mine', 'Around the Lighthouse' and 'Zen Garden'
- New modes 'Soccer' and 'Egg Hunt'
- New karts 'Xue' and 'Sara'
- Updated 'Beastie' kart
- Wiimote support (for most Wiimotes; check supertuxkart.net/wiimote for instructions and compatibility)
- Added tutorial
- Added new 'SuperTux' difficulty
- New bubblegum shield defensive weapon
- New combined speedometer and nitro meter
- Added ability to filter add-ons
- Updated nitro models
- Added ability to save and resume Grand Prix
- Improved skid marks and particle effects
It has taken us a rather long time for a minor release, but most of the developers have been rather busy with mentoring students for the “Google Summer of Code 2013”. On the other hand, we had many contributions from new developers: Dawid Gan tirelessly fixed bugs, making 0.8.1 the minor release with most bug fixes. Johannesr1 added shield functionality to bubblegum. Xenux added filtering of add-ons, Glenn De Jonghe saving of a Grand Prix (just abort a Grand Prix at the beginning of a race, later then restart the same Grand Prix again). Funto and Mohammad Al-Ghannam added a multi-player soccer mode.
You can get the new release from our download page for Windows Vista and newer, MacOSX 10.6 and newer (Intel architecture), and Linux (32-bit and 64-bit Intel/AMD architectures). Windows XP version will follow soon.

SuperTuxKart and Open Street Map - Image of the Week
Some work has been done by the Open Street Map team to convert their real world data into a SuperTuxKart track. Their work just became image of the week on their home page, see http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Supertuxkart for details, including a video. Well done, Open Street Map. Now the hunt for the best real world track can begin ;)
SuperTuxKart has been accepted for Google's Summer of Code 2013
We have been accepted as a mentoring organisation in this year's Google Summer of Code. Our official page is at http://google-melange.appspot.com/gsoc/org/google/gsoc2013/supertuxkart. SuperTuxKart is applying for Google's Summer of Code 2013
We are proud to announce that for the first time in the project's history, SuperTuxKart has applied to become a mentor organisation in this year's Google Summer of Code (GSoC). GSoc is a program where google will pay students to participate in open source projects full-time. This is a great chance for student to get developing experience while being helped by one of our experienced mentors, but also for STK to get new developers to implement new features.
We don't know if we will be selected (which will be announced on April 8th), but if you are interested please have a look at our overview page, which gives some basic information about our GSoC application, and our list of ideas.
SuperTuxKart will be SourceForge's "Project of the Month April"
We had a rather excellent result in the polls for SourceForge's "Project of the Month" - one of (if not the) highest number of votes by a hobby project . We lost to PostBooks in the end (which is actually a company with around 40 employees).
SourceForge decided because of our outstanding results and support from our fans to declare us "Project of the Month" in April (and also allow me to post this ahead of time).
Thank you very much to all our faithful fans for your votes! Thanks to all the countless blog and forum posts, and tweets, icons, videos, and everything.

SuperTuxKart 0.8 released
over a year after the 0.7.3 release, we are proud and excited to announce the release of SuperTuxKart 0.8! We have closed over 230 tickets, and made some significant changes: You can now enjoy a story mode with challenges against a stronger AI, and improved physics with better skidding and collisions. Tracks can be driven in reverse, and we have new music especially composed for SuperTuxKart. To see it in action:
